Congratulazioni, Doris, your CoffeeDog Kit from Bulldog Brewery LA is on its way!

The contest is now closed.

Your comments are still welcome.

Off the shelf is so yesterday. Today it is all about boutique booze. Craft spirits. Artisanal liquor. Now, with CoffeeDog – the Coffee and Vanilla Liqueur Kit from Bulldog Brewery LA, you can make your own craft spirits at home. I’m giving away one CoffeeDog Kit this week. So someone’s going to get lucky. If you love rich coffee liqueur, then this is for you.

Rick and Jeffery

In 2009 two guys from Los Angeles, Rick Ayres and Jeffrey Hersh, made almost one hundred bottles of CoffeeDog to give to friends. Over the years they refined the process and increased production, and now they’ve produced an easy to use kit that contains what you need to cook up some outstanding homemade coffee liqueur. It all starts with a big box. Open it up and you’ll find an instruction book (including recipes), the ingredients – organic cane sugar, California grown organic coffee, Madagascar vanilla beans, even the labeled bottles to fill with the finished CoffeeDog, and the shrink wrap to seal them. All you need to provide is water and vodka. The higher quality vodka you use, the better your CoffeeDog will be. I suggest Absolut or Grey Goose. If you are looking for an organic vodka, try ultra-smooth Prairie Organic Vodka. This isn’t the place for a flavored vodka, so stay away from spirits labeled peach, citrus, basil, etc.

Making CoffeeDog is simple, and the instructions that come with the kit are super clear. Just make a simple syrup, using water and the sugar provided with the kit. Add the CoffeeDog 100% Organic Coffee and stir. Let the mixture cool, then add the vodka and Coffee Dog Madagascar Vanilla Beans. Let the mixture marinate for 9 weeks. Every 3 weeks, open the container, and give the mixture a stir while inhaling deeply! After 9 weeks have passed, strain the mixture into the prepared bottles, and you’ve got a supply of CoffeeDog.

A bottle of smooth CoffeeDog makes a perfect gift for a host or hostess, but you’ll find a lot of ways to use it yourself.

CoffeeDog, Averna, and cream

Try a creamy cocktail of CoffeeDog and Averna over ice. CoffeeDog is a perfect match for the caramel notes and bittersweet finish of Averna, one of Italy’s most famous amari. Drop a few ice cubes into a rocks glass, and pour in 2 ounces of CoffeeDog and 1 ounce of Averna. Finish with a generous pour of cream for a wonderful winter cocktail.

CoffeeDog Gelato

Try using CoffeeDog to make Gelato al caffè, a classic Italian dessert. Gild the lily with a splash of CoffeeDog poured over the top.

CoffeeDog Tiramisu

If Tiramisu is your pleasure, use CoffeeDog to soak the savoiardi (ladyfingers)

CoffeeDog Cheesecake

Like Cheesecake? CoffeeDog makes a great one.

Aside from innumerable cocktails and desserts, there are savory ways to use CoffeeDog too. For more recipe ideas and to learn about CoffeeDog, visit the Bulldog Brewery LA website.

It’s simple to enter. Just leave a comment telling me your favorite way to use coffee liqueur. The contest will close at 11:59 pm on December 31, 2015. Entrants must have a United States shipping address and be over 18 years of age. Click here for full contest details.

What a beautiful wintry soup. I’ll pin it to my ‘recipes I will try’ immediately.

      Hi Mette,

I hope you enjoy it. I love celery root. It is not used as much in American cooking as it is in Europe, but I think it is growing in popularity, and that can only be a good thing. I hope 2016 is treating you well!

  3. Comment by Carl Wright:

Those desserts look SO amazing. Thank you for sharing about CoffeeDog and Bulldog Brewery. Love the use of dogs in marketing. For a short time I worked for a small company called “Big Dog”.

Always have so much respect for entrepreneurs such as these 2 gentlemen who start so small, and then make it into a viable business! 🙂
