{"id":2999,"date":"2011-09-14T21:25:30","date_gmt":"2011-09-15T04:25:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adribarrcrocetti.com\/main\/?p=2999"},"modified":"2012-04-15T17:13:28","modified_gmt":"2012-04-16T00:13:28","slug":"martinos-roma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adribarrcrocetti.com\/main\/martinos-roma\/","title":{"rendered":"Martino&#8217;s Roma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Another in the ongoing series &#8211; Exploring Tomatoes<\/em><br \/>\n<a class=\"thickbox\" rel=\"2999\" href=\"https:\/\/adribarrcrocetti.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/MartinosRoma-640x507-4248B_205.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/adribarrcrocetti.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/MartinosRoma-640x507-4248B_205.jpg\" alt=\"Martinos Roma\" title=\"Martinos Roma\" width=\"640\" height=\"507\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3007\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adribarrcrocetti.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/MartinosRoma-640x507-4248B_205.jpg 640w, https:\/\/adribarrcrocetti.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/MartinosRoma-640x507-4248B_205-300x237.jpg 300w, https:\/\/adribarrcrocetti.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/MartinosRoma-640x507-4248B_205-500x396.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I love this tomato!<\/p>\n<p>Smaller than the common Roma, with a stout bottom tapering up to narrow straight shoulders, this is one seriously productive plant.\u00a0 This heirloom variety plum tomato is direct from Italy and produces fruit of about 2 to 3 ounces in weight.\u00a0 It is a\u00a0 determinate tomato plant, also known a &#8220;bush tomato,&#8221; and as such all its fruit will ripen over a period of about two weeks, essentially all at once in tomato talk.\u00a0 For some uses, that is not desirable, but if you are looking for a deliciously mild tomato to make sauce or paste, this is just what you want &#8211; a plant that will yield a bountiful harvest over a short period of time.\u00a0 At about 75 days the fruit will begin to ripen, and remarkably, this plant is virtually &#8220;self-harvesting.&#8221;\u00a0 The wonderfully mild fruit, when ripe, comes off at a touch, or more often, just falls off of its own accord.\u00a0 The plant needs very little staking and sports a low, compact habit.\u00a0 The fruit holds well on and off the vine guaranteeing a generous supply for the kitchen.\u00a0 Martino&#8217;s Roma are a vibrant red, meaty and firm enough to stuff and bake.\u00a0 They are also wonderful for use on an antipasto plate.\u00a0 This is an all-around winner, and will be back in my garden next year.<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Note:  <em>You can click the picture for a larger image.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #6a73bf\"><em>I have no affiliation with any product, manufacturer, or site mentioned in this article.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another in the ongoing series &#8211; Exploring Tomatoes I love this tomato!
