My Old Le Creuset 9qtOven

With apologies to Tammy Wynette, singer and co-writer of the country standard Stand by Your Man, I’m calling this one Stand By Your Pan. This is a good news story, that in our age of lax, unconcerned customer service and “throw it away and buy new” mentality, I am both proud and pleased to relate. Read more… »

Plan Your Italian Garden!

Posted February 11, 2014 By Adri

Homegrown is alright with me.

Italian Garden Supplies

It’s never too early to plan a garden, and these days, with all the info on the Internet and all the mail order catalogs there is plenty to sift through. In just a few weeks it will be time to actually plant. Now is the time to do a little research.

Sure, if you are not in Italy, then you do not have the exact microclimate to grow a particular Italian vegetable or fruit. You do not have Italy’s indigenous soil either. But I am not going to quibble, and I am not going to let the purists stop me from growing my own, and neither should you. What greater joy is there than to walk into the garden with an empty trug and return to the kitchen, the trug brimming with fruits and vegetables grown with one’s own two hands, one’s own sweat and toil.

Don’t miss the thrill of seeing the tiny sprouting plants lift the dark, rich soil. Read more… »

One Hundred Years in America

Gaetano Crocetti

Gaetano Crocetti

One hundred years ago this month my grandfather, Gaetano Crocetti, arrived in America. He left his native Abruzzo and traveled west to Naples where he boarded the steamship Hamburg for the long voyage, trading the region’s towering mountain peaks, verdant hillsides, fields, vineyards for the smokestacks and steel mills of Steubenville, Ohio. America was good to him, but he never forgot his homeland, and my grandmother’s cooking kept those memories alive. Read more… »

New Name – New Address

Posted September 21, 2012 By Adri

WEB SITE NEWS – NEW NAME – WE’VE MOVED!

Welcome to AdriBarrCrocetti.com

Its me!

Yes, I have a new name and a new web address. The internet is a crowded place, and there are just too many sites called The Front Burner. The stovetop’s full, and it is time for a name change.

Everything else will remain the same – home cooked Italian food and recipes, sources for fine Italian ingredients and liquor (lots of liquor) and family reminiscences.

Please set your spam filters and update your bookmarks. And I beg your indulgence during the changeover. Some pages might look a little funny or take longer than usual to load. Bart is working hard to get everything updated.

I have lots of projects planned for Fall and the upcoming holidays, so I invite you to visit often.

Thanks for stopping by, leave a comment or you can email me at Adri@AdriBarrCrocetti.com

Make an Americano and let’s toast to a smooth transition!

Spaghetti al sugo di carne

Moon-Foot-Print-640x473-784

We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.

Gaetano Crocetti

I often find myself wondering what my grandfather, Gaetano Crocetti, thought as he sailed to America in 1913. As he voyaged across the Atlantic Ocean from Naples to New York he must have looked up from the deck of the Hamburg and gazed at the Moon. I bet he never dreamed he would have two sons, and of those two Italian-Americans, one would help send men to the Moon and the other would become world famous singing about the Moon. Read more… »
